I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE
BEHIND THE SCENES
Some interesting facts and figures found across the web about the famous TV show. The programme debuted on 25 August 2002 and has run every year since with a short stint in the UK during COVID.
WHERE IS I'M A CELEB FILMED?
From series two 'I’m A Celebrity' has been filmed around Springbrook National Park, near Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia. The camp and filming studios are located in Dungay on Creek Road.
Further on from the studios is a valley which is only suitable for four-wheel drives and is where the set for I’m A Celeb is located. The suspension bridges are located directly above the camps meaning the crew has to be quiet during filming.
Inside the entrance to the filming location is an open area allocated to buildings which accommodate on-site medical facilities, containers for the storage of props, and other backstage facilities.
Families and friends of the celebrities are housed here each morning during evictions. The crew are based in the holiday resort of Coolangatta. The entire set is made up of half a mile of suspension bridges, using four miles of rope, five miles of steel cabling and 60 tonnes of scaffolding to put it all together.

CAMP FACTS
IS THE CAMP COVERED?
There is a canopy suspended 50ft above the campsite which stops rain from getting in and stops the fire from going out.
IS THE WATERFALL REAL?
Sadly no it was created for the show! It is turned off when camp mates are not using it. It also runs hot water.
ARE ALL THE ROCKS REAL?
Ex-Made in Chelsea star Hugo Taylor claimed to Cosmopolitan UK that the rocks in the camp are man-made because there are cameramen hidden inside.
"In terms of the structure, they keep it the same each year because of all the cameras that are hidden in man-made rocks," he revealed. "Some of them are automated revolving cameras, and some of them are people with large camera equipment hidden in rocks, operating them manually."
ARE THE CAMPMATES REALLY HUNGRY?
Yes. The celebrities do not have access to extra food during their time on the show and the food that is given to them is exactly what they eat.
Occasionally they are given electrolyte drinks and glucose to keep their energy levels up. In 2018, two campmates were struck down with hunger and exhaustion and Medic Bob had to enter the camp to treat them.
WHY DO THE CAMPMATES WEAR RED SOCKS? Bob the medic revealed the cast are given red socks to wear so that blood from insect bites doesn't show up on camera. Reassuring.
HOW MANY BUGS ARE INVOLVED? According to Mark Busk-Cowley's book, I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! The Inside Story, in the 2013 series, an insect breeder produced 250,000 cockroaches, 153,000 crickets 2.5 million mealworms, and 400 spiders. During East 17 star Brian Harvey's infamous House of Pies task in 2004, 1.5 million flies were used, but none of them could actually fly because of their breeding conditions.
TECHNICAL FACTS
AUDIO
In case the celebs take off their radio microphones, they can still be heard by the production team as there are approx 46 hidden mics in the camp.
CAMERAS
There are 107 cameras on site. 34 cameras in camp – 15 of which can see in the dark.
EDITING
Thirteen edit suites are used throughout the series. The nerve centre of the production is in use 24 hours a day where the crew are logging the celebs actions and also speaking to any celebs who enter the Bush Telegraph.
CREW
I'm A Celebrity is a huge production with around 150 crew working on the show each day who need to be fed and watered.
PRESENTERS
Due to the time difference between the UK and Australia the presenters have to be on site incredibly early! Starting at 2.30am to do voiceover work, they then have to go through the day's script and have their make-up done before being in the studio for 7am when we go live in the UK.
GENERAL
Why the hosts' watches covered up on the show?
Viewers of the show have sparked much speculation about why host Ant McPartlin's watch face was once covered up with black tape when he appeared on Extra Camp. Whilst some conspiracists suggested the spin-off show wasn't really live, Scarlett Moffatt once explained the reasoning behind this.
'It's simply so the camp mates cannot see the time when the hosts go into camp. The campmates have no concept of time during the show!'
OTHER VERSIONS OF THE SERIES
After the UK series have finished, the German version of the show begins. Other countries with an I'm A Celebrity style show include, France, Sweden, India, Hungary and the US. They all film at the same location!
